Connell’s Bakery was started in the 1970s by Barry and Robyn Connell who have owned Bakeries throughout Gippsland and other locations over the years. Some of the locations of their previous stores were Camberwell, Longwarry, Garfield, Korumburra and Mirboo North and In 1993 they opened Connell’s Bakery Wonthaggi. The Wonthaggi store was later in the year 2000 sold to their son Brad Connell who still owns and operates the store with his wife Dee. In 2005 Connell’s Bakery made several changes from being a traditional bakery to introducing a Coffee machine and more of a gourmet menu. This saw our store get busier and busier and during this time we were also approached to supply the desalination plant which employed at times thousands of workers in the construction period. Because of these two changes to the business, we saw an opportunity to expand our store by increasing our Bakehouse as well as the number of seats in our dining area from 20 to over 100, as well as a large outdoor dining area that seats an extra 25 and since then there have been several renovations to improve what we can offer to our customers.
Since 2013 we have run a very generous computerised loyalty program that allows our customers to receive and redeem points and rewards for their loyalty which we feel sets us apart from our competitors in the local area.
We are always striving really hard to be recognised for our products and exceptional customer service and have in the past won a number of Silver and Bronze medals for our pies in the Great Aussie Pie competition and we are very proud to have been voted by our customers the best retail store in the bass coast shire in the 2015 Bass coast business awards, we were also runner up in these awards for Marketing and promotion.
Our store has survived the Covid 19 pandemic with the support of our local community and we are always grateful for the local support. At Connells Bakery we pride ourselves on always providing fresh consistent products and exceptionally warm and welcoming customer service and love being apart of the Wonthaggi community.
